The outer surface of this yellow sponges is adorned with sparse, conical protrusions resulting from horny fibers embedded within its tissues. Devoid of spicules, Aplysina cavernicola relies on an intricate network of spongin fibers for structural support.
As water is drawn in through minute pores known as ostia at the base of the sponges, it is expelled from the osculi, situated within subtle depressions at the tips of the finger-like processes.
